Another thing that happened on August 29

On Aug. 29, 1991, the Supreme Soviet, the parliament of the U.S.S.R., suspended all activities of the Communist Party, bringing an end to the institution.

I did not know that. Wow, talk about getting trumped by the news. I spent that birthday at the movies, I took myself to see Doc Hollywood and watched it in a completely empty theater. Now I know why.
