Life With Out Minnie
Minnie is fine. I finally turned the radio down and got serious about her new noise. As it turned out, she got to talking to another car in some parking lot and the other cars were passing around a copy of the new Auto Trend “Sexy In 06" issue and realized her brake shoes were “so last year!”. She black mailed me into getting her new shoes, Brake Shoes, that is. So I went to the neighborhood Brake Shoe Emporium and looked for replacments. Did you know Versace made break shoes? fortunatly for Minnie, Jacklyn Smith does too.
Minnie is so high maintance I had to drop her off over night to be properly fitted with her new shoes. This left me temporarily with out a car. I was very efficient, after I bought the new shoes for Minnie, I went to the bank next door and got some cash for the cab, I went to the cab office and scheduled a round trip for Friday. Out at 6:45 back at 4:30.
Friday morning. I scheduled the pick up early enough that if the cab was tardy, it wouldn’t matter, good thing too, the cab showed up seven minutes late. I got in the cab and thought unpleasant thoughts about my cabby. We set off, and I said to myself "This is how the other half lives", I said to myself, "This is the way to do it, Ahhhhhhhhh..." Did you know there is a rap that uses Kanya Wests’ "George Bush Doesn’t Like Black People" line? It’s a very catchy rap, I haven’t heard it on my radio stations which is a shame and also a sign that just because the stations don't brag about it, Clear Channel signs the checks.
While I was enjoying the rap, The cab took a route to my office that I wouldn’t have taken myself, it was a little round about, a little out of the way, but I was trying to have confidence with the cabby’s vast knowledge of the streets and the ebb and flow of rush hour traffic that I know nothing about as I take the fastest, least trafficked route to work and he didn’t ask me how I get to work. I think If I was a more experienced cab rider I would have suggested a different route, a more direct route, but I was with out my car and Mr. Cab Driver was taking me to work, so I really couldn’t complain too much, or at all as it turned out.
Anyway. I got to work. I worked, I got ready to leave and then I waited. I waited and waited and then I turned down a ride from a concerned co-worker. Then I called the cab company:
Me - Hi, My name is Diana? I have an appointment?
Cab Co - Oh, yeah! We got kind of busy round here. The driver is on his way.
Me - When? It’s 4:45? I said 4:30.
Cab Co - He’ll be there in four, five minutes.
Me - Hokay.
I watch the cab wandering in two close but no cigar neighboring parking lots before he saw me.
Cabby - Hey, do you know where Office Building is?
Me - I am Office Building.
I note a orphan cigarette on the seat as I get in the car. I also note the “No Smoking” written in the window. I take time to note the cigarette smoke in the air. I asked the cabby to drop me off at the Shoe Fitter and reclaimed my car. Minnie smelled foul when I got her back. It was a new smell, a not her usual stale Dogger smell. I didn’t like it. Soon though, like the bad noise, the bad smell went away.
