Orlando

I'm a bad person. This morning when I checked my device and I saw the multiple CNN breaking news icons. I knew something Very Bad had happened. I saw that twenty people had been shot in the early hours of the morning at a club in Florida and I said "Man, that is so sad." which is what I say every time many people are killed all at one time. I say that because if we can kill twenty five year old's and NOTHING happens to our gun laws as a result, NOTHING will ever happen to our gun laws. There is no reason to become even more angry. Human life has no worth in our society once that life has drawn breath.

And then later on, I saw a comment on Facebook that the number of dead at the club was now fifty, and I said to myself Oh, don't make it worse! Twenty is bad enough, stop being a dick! And as it turns out, fifty was the correct number of dead at present.

The Priest didn't say a word at Mass about it. Not one word. A lot of words about Mathew, Mark, John and  the love and service of St. Joseph. Not a word how a few hours ago there was a  mass murder of young people. No words about grief or anger or sadness or numbness at the state of things. No words about God and His healing and His love. He talked instead about a wedding he said in Wilmington on Saturday and how lovely the bride was and how he remembered walking with her at a Anti-Abortion march when she was a child.

The fifty-three (edited to add) dead children on Orlando didn't get a mention.

Looking at the surnames of the dead, many of them were Hispanic and many of those were probably good Catholics, they rated at least a mention in passing. The names as of 9:47pm, 6/12/16, an updated list can be found here

Edward Sotomayor Jr., 34 years old
Stanley Almodovar III, 23 years old
Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo, 20 years old
Juan Ramon Guerrero, 22 years old
Eric Ivan Ortiz-Rivera, 36 years old
Peter O. Gonzalez-Cruz, 22 years old
Luis S. Vielma, 22 years old
Kimberly Morris, 37 years old

And fuck Donald Trump sideways with a chainsaw.

Doing Our Part

Tell me what Democracy looks like?! This is what Democracy looks like!

My precinct made quorum! On The First Try!

In years past we've had to go to lame  make up meetings on a Saturday at the party head quarters and those are no fun. These meetings aren't fun either but at least you get a feeling of community and  all that. True out of 1500 voters we pulled a total of five, but that's approximately four more than we had last time, so its a big deal. I am again the vice chair and a delegate to the conventions and a member of the executive committee. Woo! I rawk hard.

We talked a lot about how much we hate the rethuglicans and how they are ruining the Wake County schools, because they are hateful and they are ruining the Wake County schools. But its good to have a consensus.

Of course, once again our large, predominantly black precinct was poor attended and Lily white. We got a little round table while the other precincts got banquet tables set out because they pull in 25 people every time. My precinct "doesn't like the big meetings and prefers to meet at the rec center, like they always have" Bull shit. The meetings aren't being held like that anymore and its time to make the change. Spoiled children. If Precinct 50 can pull in huge numbers of folks why can't we? Why are they different? And I don't want to hear about poor, elderly people not being able to make the meetings, half the people there tonight were poor and elderly and they  made the meeting and some of them in their wheel chairs damn it. No excuses, no spoiled children these.

There were several candidates running for various positions and they were all very good, or at least  they looked very good, the acoustics in the High School cafeteria sucked and we really could only hear about every other thing they said but they all wore nice suits and apparently everyone of them is running against a 12 year old Rethuglican WASP that graduated Law School two weeks ago. Not a lot of WASPs in our congressional district.  But the rethuglicans will be there, if they don't hit  all of our doors, they'll hit everywhere else and the Democrats won't be because  these low on the ballot races aren't all that important. The 12 year olds will win because no one bothered to hit our doors and tell us why we need to go vote and where on the ballot these races are.

The school board went red because the party didn't care about the bottom of the ballot races. Guess what? Thanks to our complacency the schools are going to hell and our school children will spend their days in 1957. The rethuglicans have mastered fear mongering and keeping their base angry and frightened, its time for the Democrats to get out there and terrify us.

Fox News scammed ignorant people.

Fox spent weeks promoting apparent tea party scam

December 31, 2009 4:00 pm ET by Matt Gertz

TPM Media's Zachary Roth reported earlier in the week that the political action committee that organized the Tea Party Express -- Our Country Deserves Better PAC -- funneled almost two-thirds of its spending from July to November back to the political consulting firm from which it was spawned, Russo, Marsh, and Associates. More than $850,000 of the money the supposedly grassroots PAC collected went to the firm of GOP political operatives who ran it.

Really?

There was just nothing right about the Bush Admins handling of the Iraq War, not one damned thing.  Shockingly, Donald Rumsfeld illustrated with photos of soldiers at prayer and bible verses on the covers of the daily war briefings he presented Shrub with:  see slide show , as a believer this sickens me and lets me know what low esteem they held  my faith. It's disgusting.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House on Monday predicted a record deficit of $490 billion for the 2009 budget year, a senior government official told CNN.

President Bush inherited a budget surplus of $128 billion when he took office in 2001 but has since posted a budget deficit every year.

The Bush administration has spent heavily on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and faces a large budget shortfall in tax revenue because of Bush's tax cuts and a souring economy.

President George Bush: 'Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter'

The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."

He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.

Ex-White House Aide Rove Fails to Appear at U.S. House Hearing

July 10 (Bloomberg) -- Former White House political director Karl Rove, defying a subpoena, failed to appear before a U.S. House panel investigating whether the Justice Department prosecuted people for political reasons.

Rove's action today prompted the House Judiciary subcommittee to rule that his reasons for skipping the appearance weren't valid, setting up a possible contempt of Congress vote next week.

Rove? Contemtuous?

Poll: Bush most unpopular president in modern history

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A new poll suggests that George W. Bush is the most unpopular president in modern American history.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush his handling his job as president.

"No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president's disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

"Bush's approval rating, which stands at 28 percent in our new poll, remains better than the all-time lows set by Harry Truman and Richard Nixon (22 percent and 24 percent, respectively) but even those two presidents never got a disapproval rating in the 70s," Holland added. "The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 66 percent disapproval in January 1952."

CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider adds, "He is more unpopular than Richard Nixon was just before he resigned from the presidency in August 1974." President Nixon's disapproval rating in August 1974 stood at 67 percent.

The poll also indicates that support for the war in Iraq has never been lower. Thirty percent of those questioned favored the war while 68 percent opposed the conflict.

"Americans are growing more pessimistic about the war," Holland said. "In January, nearly half believed that things were going well for the U.S. in Iraq; now that figure has dropped to 39 percent."

The numbers on the Iraq war come on the five-year anniversary of President Bush's "mission accomplished" moment onboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, when Bush proclaimed that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended."

The record low support for the war in a CNN poll could be one reason behind the president's unpopularity, but it probably is not the only one.

"Support for the war, the assessment of the economy and approval of Mr. Bush are all about the same — bad," Schneider said.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted by telephone from Monday through Wednesday, with 1,008 adult Americans questioned. The poll's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Ya Think!?

Memo Sheds New Light on Torture Issue

A newly disclosed Justice Department legal memorandum, written in March 2003 and authorizing the military’s use of extremely harsh interrogation techniques, offers what could be a revealing clue in an unsolved mystery: What responsibility did top Pentagon and Bush administration officials have for abuses committed by American troops at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and in Afghanistan; Guantánamo Bay, Cuba; and elsewhere?

Some legal experts and advocates said Wednesday that the document, written the month that the United States invaded Iraq, adds to evidence that the abuse of prisoners in military custody may have involved signals from higher officials and not just irresponsible actions by low-level personnel.

Bush to compare the Iraq War to the Vietnam War - Years after the rest of us but not in the same way... OR And the beat goes on...

He thinks Vietnam was successfully. He also compares the Japanese people, post WWII to the Iraqi people today. He is crazy.

Bush to invoke Vietnam in arguing against Iraq pullout

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As he awaits a crucial progress report on Iraq, President Bush will try to put a twist on comparisons of the war to Vietnam by invoking the historical lessons of that conflict to argue against pulling out.

A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found that almost two-thirds of Americans -- 64 percent -- now oppose the Iraq war, and 72 percent say that even if Petraeus reports progress, it won't change their opinion.

The poll also found a great deal of skepticism about the report; 53 percent said they do not trust Petraeus to give an accurate assessment of the situation in Iraq.

In addition to his analogy to Vietnam, Bush in Wednesday's speech will invoke other historical comparisons from Asia, including the U.S. defeat and occupation of Japan after World War II and the Korean War in the 1950s, according to the excerpts.

And on and on and on, and the beat goes on...

White House refuses to answer subpoenas

WASHINGTON - President Bush, moving toward a constitutional showdown with Congress, asserted executive privilege Thursday and rejected lawmakers' demands for documents that could shed light on the firings of federal prosecutors.

Bush's attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor in a fight that centers on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' stewardship of the Justice Department.

Big Oil attacked over record gas prices
Critics tell House panel that mismanagement, lack of competition are behind record prices; call for gas reserve, possible oil company breakup.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Big Oil went on the defensive Wednesday, getting grilled before a House panel and denying accusations that mismanagement and a lack of competition are the reasons behind this spring's record gasoline prices.

But the American Petroleum Institute, an oil industry group, in an e-mail sent out prior to the hearing, said nearly 30 state or federal investigation over the past 30 years have failed to turn up any evidence of price fixing

Felmy said in a phone interview that whenever the industry tries to add refining capacity, it faces opposition from surrounding communities. Moreover, Felmy questioned why the industry would make expensive refining expansions when President Bush is calling for a 20 percent reduction in gasoline use by 2017. API also produced numbers showing the amount of gasoline being produced was increasing. "I think the refining industry is doing all it can," said Felmy.

Felmy said several other contingencies are contributing to the high gas prices. Those include higher crude prices since the start of the year, attributed to tensions with Iran and violence in Nigeria; a decline in gasoline imports because of a strike in Europe; strong demand in the United States and higher prices for ethanol, which is blended with gasoline to make it cleaner burning.

"We recognize that consumers are frustrated by these prices," said Felmy. "But price controls could make them worse."

Read it and weep

Tony Snow, White House press Flack: No, as a matter of fact the president has an obligation to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. That is an obligation that presidents have enacted through signing statements going back to Jefferson. So, while the Supreme Court can be an arbiter of the Constitution, the fact is the President is the one, the only person who, by the Constitution, is given the responsibility to preserve, protect, and defend that document, so it is perfectly consistent with presidential authority under the constitution itself. Who, by the Constitution, is given the responsibility to preserve, protect, and defend that document, so it is perfectly consistent with presidential authority under the constitution itself.
