Back in the day

This was in my inbox the other day:

Hello Alums:

The avalanche of my first year as chair is about to finish consuming me, but not before I send out best wishes to everyone...and here's an invite to this year's Bobcat Invasion of the Big Apple. Our B.F.A. showcase and Alumni reunion will be Monday, May 15.

The showcase is at the Michael Weller Theatre/Broken Watch Theatre Company. (It is the same place it was last year, but then it was known as the Sande Shurin Theatre.) The Theatre is located at 311 W. 43rd St. #602. The showcase starts at 6:00 pm. and runs about an hour. The Alumni Reception will be at the Social Bar & Grill (795 8th Avenue). The reception runs from 8-11 p.m. Food will be provided, and there is a cash bar.

** To help with the headcount for food, please RSVP if you plan on attending.

I wonder who was the chair last year? Did the other guy retire or die or something? I don’t keep up but I am pretty sure they old boy who was chair while I was there many moons ago, had been retired off much longer ago than just last year. I wonder who I missed.

Damn. I wanna go! No chance in hell of that happening but still, damn. I wonder if anyone I know would go? What would I do if I did go? Stand around over beers and talk about what? “Hey remember that time you guys didn’t really talk to me unless I talked to you first. I remember watching you guys get arrested for public intox that time at the annual banquet and one of your girlfriends had to follow you out there and bail you out. She came back and accepted your awards for you at the ceremony. I bet you didn’t get laid that night. What am I doing now? Didn’t bother trying to IMDB me? Good idea, I’m not there. You aren’t either, but I’m sure you’re working on it”, it doesn’t matter though, I’m so jealous of ya’ll it isn’t even funny..

Good times. Is it just new grads or is it also old timers? I’m would be happy to just know where 795 8th Avenue looks like or even better 311 W. 43rd St. #602. Did I walk past there when I was in NYC a couple of years ago? Have I seen it on Law and Order? I don’t remember if I saw that street in person. I think we were up in the 50s most of the time. Gawd.

I think in reality, I really would not want to be in attendance. It would blow their minds though if I did show up. It would take them a while to figure out where they know me from. I still look more or less the same, so they think they knew me from somewhere. I’m pretty sure that our people who ended up in New York ended up there to work “in the field”, they didn’t go there to be file clerks and I doubt they would want to talk the great paper clips v. binder clips debate with me anyway, even if by some chance they did end up there as file clerks - They probably file really cool things. Oh, wait,
they aren't filing

Another thing is happening on the 15th, it’s my five year anniversary of coming to work here and filing uncool things. It is the five year and three day anniversary of me moving from Texas to North Carolina.
