It is obvious that he's got "campaigner's remorse"-- he spent the money, put himself out there, picked a running mate, and now realized "Holy smokes, there's no WAY we can do this! Retreat! Retreeeeat!"
He's calling for a time out. There are no time outs during the campaign season! Palin can't even be interviewed by a slow pitch softball pitcher like Katie Couric without sounding like a moron.
